เป็นหน่วยงานของรัฐบาลไทยที่ดำเนินการภายใต้สภาของนายกรัฐมนตรี เป้าหมายหลักของหน่วยงานนี้คือการดึงดูดการลงทุนและส่งเสริมการลงทั้งในประเทศไทยและต่างประเทศ
สำนักงานส่งเสริมการลงทุนดำเนินการโดยการให้การสนับสนุนและให้สิทธิประโยชน์ส่งเสริมที่กลุ่มอุตสาหกรรม
ที่น่าสนใจในสาขาเศรษฐกิจต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับแผนการขยายธุรกิจและอุตสาหกรรม
